The 5:

A recap of Dave Crandall’s Message, “Who Should We Love?” in 5 points or less.

  1. If you are a child of God, you should love the other kids.
  2. The key to loving others is loving God first.
  3. The number one most important thing we must do as a follower of God is love Him!
  4. We extend God’s love to others by loving through serving, loving through caring, and loving through sharing.
  5. If we truly believe that only Jesus can change a life, how selfish is it that we refuse to talk about it?

What We Learned:

We have been learning about some of the weirdest stories in the Bible, and today was very challenging! God sent his prophet Elisha to save an entire community by blessing their water and making it good again. On his way out of town he was heckled and made fun of by the town youths, the very kids he just saved. He called down a curse on them, and 42 of them were mauled by bears for their sin. Now that’s a tough lesson! Sin and its consequences are real. It’s a hard balance to show kids how God justly punishes sin, but loves us so much. The kids in this lesson learned the hard way. This week kids were challenged to seek forgiveness from anyone who they have sinned against., and to show respect to God’s messengers. This could be their teachers, parents, brothers and sisters, or their friends!

In The Car:

Talk with your kids about the TV shows they watch. Challenge the kids to point out the wise and poor decisions that the characters are making. Relate this to whether or not the characters are showing respectful attitudes to those in charge. How does that influence how they see you as their parents, or other leaders and messengers of God in their lives?

At Bedtime:

Pray with your kids, thanking God for his powerful word, the Bible! We saw in our Bible that Elisha’s words were very powerful, too! Ask God to help us choose wise and respectful words this week as we follow God!
