Religion didn’t work for the Shepherds, and it won’t work for us!
Luke 2:8-11 NIV
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
The Shepherds felt distant from God because religion made them feel…
• Unworthy
• Inadequate
• Unloved
Religion didn’t work for the Shepherds, and it won’t work for us!
Romans 3:20-22 NLT
For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are. But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law…We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.

3. Becoming Right With God Comes Through Faith in Christ Alone!
We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. Rom. 3:22
Religion reduces Christianity down to a list of rules that isn’t going to fix any of this. It will only make you feel farther away from God and fearful of where you might stand with God, but… Fear Not—I bring you good news great joy—Town of David a Savior!
Fear not! Good News—For all of the Unworthy, Inadequate, and Unloved, Savior born!

Religion rejected the Shepherds, it chewed them up, spit them out, and forgot about them. But then God showed up and said I want a relationship with you! He embraced them, He sent his Son Jesus to be their Savior, to stand in their place wherever they fell short…
• Felt Unworthy – but Jesus was perfect, and completely worthy
• Felt Inadequate – but Jesus was more than enough
• Felt Unloved – but Jesus loved them because of who he is, not because of who they were
Today, you may have walked into here feeling just like the Shepherds did, Unworthy, Inadequate, and Unloved. But fear not, I bring you Good news for all people, there is a Savior and his name is Jesus!
