Things always look different in the light!
Genesis 1:3-4 NIV
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good,
and he separated the light from the darkness.
Things always look different in the light!
1 John 1:5-6 NLT
This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.
So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God
but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth.
3 Lies We Need To Drag Into The Light:
I’m good enough!
1 John 1:8-9 NLT
If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
God can’t forgive me!
1 John 2:1-2 NLT
My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.
I can live however I want!
1 John 2:3-6 NLT
And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.
The very first thing that God does is he creates light, and then he says light was good! And he intentionally separates light from darkness to create a clear distinction. God then all through the Bible uses light as the metaphor for truth and goodness, and darkness for lies and evil. In fact, instinctively almost all of us have a fear of the dark…
How many of you would be honest, I’m afraid of the dark!
Trail Cam Pics Nightvision:
• Buck With Bush Pic (terrifying if you saw with no light!)
• Owl attacking deer Pic (can you imagine what this sounded like…bad day for that deer)
• Buck jumping Raccoon Pic (even animals are afraid of what they see in the dark sometimes)
• Racoon Selfie Pic (Some animals love getting their picture taken)
• Goofy Doe Pic (others can be really camera shy)
All that stuff looks silly, funny…because we can see it in the light with the nightvision, but if we heard that stuff, or saw the shadows of that happening, we’d probably be freaked out, but…
Would you agree with me when I make this statement: Wherever light is, darkness isn’t? Or put it another way, Whenever light shows up, darkness takes off? Anytime light is present, darkness is absent?
Okay, pull out your cellphones…(I want a black slide on the screen, and for the auditorium to be blacked out)
Would you agree that it’s dark in here?
Turn on your cell phone flashlight, shine it around…everywhere your light hits, the darkness disappears!
