31 Days of Wisdom | Day 23
Tuesday, August 23rd 2016
Do not let your heart envy sinners, But always be zealous for the fear of the LORD. There is surely a future hope for you, And your hope will not be cut off. Proverbs 23:17-18
Reading for today: Proverbs 23:1-35
It is often very tiring to do the right thing, especially when it ends up costing you. I can think of one particular time when I was really down in the dumps because I was taking so much heat for doing the right thing. I was confiding in a close friend and as we talked he said these challenging and encouraging words, “Isn’t it nice to know that people are not our ultimate judge. If they were you’d be in a lot of trouble, but thankfully God is the judge and he’s proud of what you are doing.” Although his statement was encouraging it was also convicting, because I was having a full blown pity party for myself. From that point on I have clung to the reality that my future and my hope aren’t in the hands of men, but in the hands of God. And that is very reassuring!
