Do you see a man who speaks in haste? There is more hope for a fool than for him. Proverbs 29:20
Reading for today: Proverbs 29:1-27
When I (Dave) was a child I was often called motor mouth, and was regularly reminded to slow down and “think about what I was doing.” My mouth and my actions usually preceded any intelligent thought process, and it lead to many unfortunate consequences. After many years of have “foot in mouth” disease I came across a tremendous verse that said, “…be slow to speak, and quick to listen.” This changed my life! From that point on I have tried to discipline my mind to process not only what I am going to say next, but also to process what others are saying to me. Unfortunately, I still on occasion find my size 11 shoe heading for my mouth, but it is a far rarer sight than it once was. Take your time in speaking, because anything worth saying is worth thinking through first.
