Happiness comes from the world around me, joy comes from the Spirit within me!

Hebrew: sa-son “to leap or spin around with pleasure”

Happiness comes from the world around me, joy comes from the Spirit within me!

Psalm 51:12 NCV
Give me back the joy of your salvation. Keep me strong by giving me a willing spirit.

Unleash Your View Of God

Zephaniah 3:17 NLT
For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”

Nehemiah 8:10 NIV
Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Unleash Yourself In Worship

Psalm 66:1-4 NLT
Shout joyful praises to God, all the earth! Sing about the glory of his name! Tell the world how glorious he is. Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds! Your enemies cringe before your mighty power. Everything on earth will worship you, they will sing your praises, shouting your name in glorious songs.”

In fact the English word, sassy, comes directly from this Hebrew word. It’s almost a “Messy Hair, Don’t Care” attitude!

Even today at both weddings and births this word is shouted! These two events are the epitome of what this word embodies.

There is certainly an element of happiness to joy, but joy actually transcends happiness because of it’s source:
Happiness comes from the world around me, joy comes from the Spirit within me!

One author defines joy this way: Joy is a divine dimension of living that is not shackled by circumstances.

Prayer I want us all to pray Psalm 51:12 morning: Give me back the joy of your salvation. Keep me strong by giving me a willing spirit.
Who did you allow to steal your joy? It’s time to unleash it, to take it back, to experience it once again!

“He will calm…” Because of his love he will not bring up your past wrongs!

The meaning of Joy is to leap or spin around with pleasure…When God thinks about you he jumps up and down, spins around, takes delight in, has great gladness in, sings and shouts about you!

We learned inhibitors as we grow up. Think about when you were a kid, you had no problem expressing unbridled joy! But today, everything is muted right? You don’t want to overdue it, you don’t want to get made fun of. The only exception, especially for men, is when it comes to sports.

Same is true when it comes to our expressing joy in worship…I grew up as a Baptist: Southern, Northern, General, Missionary, American…Regular Baptist…lot’s of fiber in our communion wafers! As a whole: don’t dance, go to movies, don’t drink, smoke, or chew…or hang out with those that do!

“I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart….like seriously really, really deep in my heart, in a closet, with no window or light, locked in a long time ago and I’ve lost the key!”

But, if you’ve got any of that in you, it can get even worse! Cause you can start judging other people in how they worship. You stand there and look at others and you determine if they are worshipping correctly, too much, or that’s gotta be fake…and you further alienate yourself from joy in worship because you have become the self appointed worship auditor!

You need to unleash yourself!!!!! Your God is worthy of your praise, He doesn’t care if the person next to you looks like they sucked on a lemon and drank an exlax before they came in, your not here for them, your here for Him!

So let’s go to THE authority on how God wants us to worship…it’s this little book He wrote called the Bible!
