"My favorite part about volunteering is getting to know other volunteers and the kids." -Naomi

At Friendship we believe the Church is not a building, it’s people, serving together to glorify God as an effective and influential church. So, each week, we highlight a volunteer or staff member who serves at Friendship, because our volunteers and staff make everything we do possible! We’ve asked each person some fun questions to help you get to know them better.

Naomi Stewart has been serving at Friendship since she was in 5th grade. She currently serves with Kids Zone and makes such a huge impact on the lives of the kids every week. On Wednesday nights at RIOT you’ll find her jamming behind the drums with the RIOT band.

Scroll down to learn more about Naomoi.

What brought you to Friendship originally?
My parents brought me to church…but it wasn’t like I had a choice. I’m pretty sure I still don’t… but I don’t care! Church is a super important part of any Christians’ life, and with an awesome church like Friendship I’d be coming anyway.

What is your most memorable moment at Friendship?
I have too many to choose from! I’d have to say that Summer Break activities, walking around the construction site when the new building was being built, having prayer with other volunteers in all the different places, and being baptized are some of the biggest.

What has been your favorite Friendship series?
Vision Sunday is always a favorite, and But What About…? was a really good one, too. Plus I remember “The Best Year Ever” being a really good service.

What is your favorite thing about volunteering?
Getting to know other volunteers and the kids.

What is your favorite part of Sunday mornings at Friendship?
The worship service and getting to talk to people.

What is your proudest moment in life?
Getting a short story published in the Members Mag edition of Clubhouse and watching my dad preach one of the sermons in The Moral of the Story.

What is your favorite holiday?
Probably Christmas, but Thanksgiving is great because my Grandma will make twenty pies. Literally.

Do you have any hobbies during your spare time?
Reading, drawing, and crafting are my main ones. Most of the time this means I’m either starting a book I will ‘finish’ or a project I won’t.

What do you do for a living/career?
By day, my living is school. And Algebra. I’m trying to get my parents to pay me for it, but they don’t agree. I don’t know why… But by night, I’m an alien that abducts humans for my job.

What is the last book you read?
My latest read is The Alien Handbook to Secretly Living With Earthlings. I also just read through the Harry Potter series for the second time. But I read a different book every couple days, so that’s always changing…  I’m also reading through the Left Behind series.

Which cartoon character is your favorite?
Ha! Our family doesn’t watch much cartoons…does Tom and Jerry count? That’s a funny thing we’ll watch sometimes, and it’s really funny to watch my siblings laugh away at Roadrunner, too.

If you had to choose one food to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Cheese.
Well, okay, that’s probably not going to keep me alive so I’d have to say maybe my mom’s really good Chili Rice Bake. It’s got rice, hamburger, and….you guessed it- cheese on it, so that’s what I’d pick. Maybe. There’s a lot of really other good stuff out there, too.

What would be your dream vacation?
Since I can’t decide on one place, I’d have to choose a world tour. 🙂 It would have to hit places like the Grand Canyon, museums in Washington, D.C. and London, palaces in India and China, mountains….and incorporate a service trip in Africa. It probably won’t ever happen all at once, but maybe I can eventually visit a lot of those places.

If you had a super power, what would it be?
I’d want to be able to slow down time, but for only me so I can pause between seconds and go finish something and nobody would notice. I’d probably spend eternity stretched between the seconds I have to leave for something and I don’t have everything done. You’d probably finding me there painting a masterpiece to rival the Starry Night. While eating potato chips.

What is your favorite scripture?
Philippians 4:8- Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Who inspires you the most?
Ooh…that’s hard. Obviously Jesus inspires me, and a lot of other biblical characters. My parents, also, but I find myself more inspired by lots of stories about people than the person all by their self…

What is your favorite restaurant?
Chipotle…or maybe Mrs. Curl’s, which has good icecream, but also food. But come on….that’s not even to mention all the breakfast places (Cracker Barrel, Lincoln Square Pancake House, Metro Diner) and a million other places I can’t think of right now.
