At Friendship we believe the Church is not a building, it’s people, serving together to glorify God as an effective and influential church. So, each week, we’ll highlight a volunteer who serves at Friendship, because our volunteers make everything we do possible! We’ve asked each person some fun questions to help you get to know them better.

Meet Melissa Miller, an Elder’s wife and small group leader. This mom of two girls (with another one on the way) would eat chips and salsa for the rest of her life if she had to, and has a dog named Alvin who lives up to his mischievous name.

What brought you to Friendship originally?

We were in search of a church when we moved to the area. My other half is a “logical/systematic” thinker, so of course we started with the church closest to our house. At that time it was Friendship.

What is your favorite holiday?

I do not have a favorite holiday, but I have a favorite time of year. I love October through January which involves several holidays. I love costumes of Halloween (not the scary ones. I am a scaredy cat!). I love the transition of people’s attitudes at Thanksgiving. I love Christmas gift giving and celebrations. I love New Years for all the glitter and sparkles.

What do you do for a living/career?

I am an RN, but will soon be making the transition to being a stay-at-home mom.

What is your favorite scripture?

Psalms 139:13-16 “You made my whole being; You formed me in my mother’s body. I praise you because you made me in an amazing and wonderful way. What you have done is wonderful. I know this very well. You saw my bones being formed as I took shape in my mother’s body. When I was put together there you saw my body as it was formed. All the days planned for me were written in your book before I was one day old.”

Do you have any hidden talents?

I can speak fluent movie quotes and song lyrics! I am a little rusty these days given I spend most of my movie time watching Disney Princesses.

Who inspires you the most?

My husband and children. They make me want to be a better me!

What is your most memorable moment at Friendship?

I have so many memorable moments at Friendship! One most recent was during Sunday Nights, we allowed our oldest daughter to come to the Party! (She is 4). She was so excited to sing, dance, and celebrate with everyone. This time also opened up really great (4 year old) conversation and questions from her about Jesus.

What has been your favorite Friendship series?

Underrated

What is your favorite thing about volunteering?

Effecting people’s lives by helping create an experience they will remember.

What is your favorite part of Sunday mornings at Friendship?

The moments after the service visiting with other people who have shared in the same group experience (worship and message), but could have had a completely different Holy Spirit experience. The atmosphere changes after the service–like an awaking. Life decisions or changes being made at that particular moment.

Which household chore is do you dread doing?

Laundry. Putting the load in the washer is fine. Even moving it to the dyer, I can handle! It is the necessity of folding and/or hanging up and the putting it all away!
