My parenting sources affect my parenting success!

My parenting sources affect my parenting success!

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 NIV
If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

How to make love the ultimate source for your parenting:

Follow a Better Example

John 13:15,34-35 NIV
I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you…“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Build a Stronger Foundation

John 15:9 NLT
I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love.

Ephesians 5:1-2 NLT
Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

Find a Higher Purpose

Psalm 127:3 NLT
Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.

Ephesians 6:4 CEV
Parents, don’t be hard on your children. Raise them properly. Teach them and instruct them about the Lord.

Lean on A Greater Power

1 John 4:19 NLT
We love each other because he loved us first.

Philippians 4:13 NLT
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

We parent from many different places:

  • Place of Fear
  • Place of Anger
  • Place of Judgement (our own and others)
  • Place of Exhaustion (biggest problem with parenting is the cost: money, time, and sleep!)
  • Place of Regret (don’t want to make the same mistakes)

But really, the only way to supercharge your parenting success is to get to a place, to tap into a source that will give you everything you need to be successful…

The key of John 15:9 is of course that before you can ‘remain’ in his love, you must first accept his love. If you are trying to love other, to love your children out of your own resources you will run dry, your love stores will get empty really quick, because you are constantly doling out love, and yet so few people will really love you back to replenish you. It’s only when you accept Jesus love for you that you can tap into the unlimited supply of love he offers.

His love for you is so strong that he joyfully, willingly sacrificed himself so you could have a restored relationship with God…

Why are you trying to get your kids to do what you want them to do? Fear, anger, judgement, exhaustion, regret?????
