Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid. Proverbs 12:1

Reading for today: Proverbs 12:1-28

Pretty plain and simple, huh? The writer of the proverbs invites us to celebrate the painful act of discipline. This seems weird doesn’t it? That’s like saying, “Be excited about your house being foreclosed on!!” It just doesn’t line up with our way of response. But like it says, it’s stupid to hate reproof. Think about if our parents had not disciplined us when we were growing up. We would have all turned out as selfish, whiney, spoiled brats. When we think about that, aren’t we thankful. We celebrate the fact that we were corrected. So the next step is to be thankful during the discipline process. The best way to do this is to remember how great the ultimate result will be as gold refined by fire.
