Your Name Was Called!
For many years I watched the NFL draft religiously. I would study the charts; look at the Colts needs and strengths; develop my own mock draft…you know the whole “nine yards” so to speak.
In recent years, I’ve discovered that with or without my obsession over the draft, the Colts will pick who they pick, and I can spend 10 minutes the next day reading about it. But, I still love watching those young college kids when they get the “Call”. You see just before a team sends the name of the player they have choosen to the announcer, they make a phone call to the player and alert him that his name is about to be called. They let him know that they want him, they’ve choosen him, they’ve got great plans for him.
This is all very exciting, that is until the player’s agent gets involved! Then it’s negotiating and jockeying for position and leverage. Sometimes a player will even hold out and not sign with the team that has chosen him until all of his demands are met.
The Bible says that we have been chosen as well. And our leader wants you, he’s chosen you, and he has great plans for you. Listen to this…
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God… – 1 Peter 2:9-10
The question is, are you still trying to negotiate your contract or have you accepted the terms. It’s something to think about…don’t you think?
