Your Face Will Surely Show It

As the parent of a one-year old, I’m extremely familiar with what I call “filler” songs in which we the parents sing while changing clothes, diapers, or wiping off our sons face after he eats. These songs are a distraction from the un-fun thing we are having to do. He laughs, claps along, everybody wins.

The other day we were singing “If You’re Happy And You Know It” because he just loves to clap. It dawned on me that the online other line in the song other than the title is “Your face will surely show it” and I couldn’t help but think of our response to the joy we are supposed to have in Christ.

We, humans, like to pout. We rather focus on what we don’t have versus what we do have; what’s bothering us, not what’s worth celebrating. Me included; I’m human.

“You turned my wailing into dancing;
you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy.”
(Psalm 30:11, NIV)

HE is our joy. May our faces surely show it.

Your response is everything.
