What’s the worst that could happen?
When I’m faced with tough decisions I will often ask two questions, “What is the best case scenario” and “What’s the worst that could happen”. Between these two questions I’m given clear potential boundaries. This last Sunday I challenged us to make Christ our #1 priority. So, I ask you what’s the worst/best that could happen. Seriously, take a few minutes and ask yourself these questions and really search your heart.
You may be tempted to be super spiritual and say, “Oh, you should never do that, God wants us to take blind leaps of faith!” Hmmm, does he? Really? The reality is that almost every time Jesus asked people to put him first, he would lay out…wait for it…the best and worst case scenarios. Jesus doesn’t want anyone to follow him and not know what they are really getting into. Listen to both sides, then determine for yourself…
“Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.” – Matthew 8:19-20I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. – John 14:12-14
