Waiting…YUCK!

I don’t like to wait for anything. I am a generally impatient individual, not with people, but with progress. For instance, I will stand at the microwave and be irritated because it takes a full 30 seconds to re-heat my coffee; I can’t stand traffic lights; and waiting in line for anything just grates against my psyche!

If you are like me allow me to enlighten you on something that I have not yet fully learned but I am beginning to understand more and more…God wants you to wait on Him.

It pains me to even say those words to you, but I’m discovering that it is not only the truth, but it is an absolute truth. For instance take the words of Isaiah 40:31…
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
or Psalm 27:14
Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
or Psalm 37:34
Wait for the LORD and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land
or Proverbs 20:22
Do not say, “I’ll pay you back for this wrong!” Wait for the LORD, and he will deliver you.
or…unfortunately, for us impatient people, I could go on and on!

So, why does the God of the universe who is unhindered or restricted by time tell us to wait? Because He doesn’t just want us to trust Him in what to do, but WHEN to do it. Do you believe that God’s timing is perfect? I must admit that their are times when I believe that God has forgotten to “set his clock forward”.

So, what are we to do as we wait? Well, listen to the words of the wisest man that ever lived in Ecclesiastes 3:11-12
Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can.
I suppose that means we should take a deep, long breath and relax a little, knowing that his clock, and his timing are perfect!
