Proverbs 5 – "Beating Temptation"
Temptation is something that comes in many different forms and it’s one of those things that everyone can relate to because we all struggle with it. I think we all can relate to this proverb because of the significance that temptation represents when we give into it and the consequences that come along with it. Proverbs 5:3-6 is a good example of that….
“For the lips of an immoral woman are as sweet as honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil. But in the end she is as bitter as poison, as dangerous as a double-edged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave. For she cares nothing about the path to life. She staggers down a crooked trail and doesn’t realize it.”
Proverbs 5:15-20 shows us the importance of thinking through temptation and allows us the opportunity to see that what we have is enough and there is no need to seek anywhere else…. “Drink water from your own well—share your love only with your wife. Why spill the water of your springs in the streets, having sex with just anyone? You should reserve it for yourselves. Never share it with strangers. Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you. Rejoice in the wife of your youth. She is a loving deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts satisfy you always. May you always be captivated by her love. Why be captivated, my son, by an immoral woman, or fondle the breasts of a promiscuous woman?”
Sometimes everyone simply struggles with not being content and embracing all the possessions we truly have that were given to us by the one who knows us best…..and that is God. We also have to know and understand the significance of Proverbs 5:21-23……
“For the Lord sees clearly what a man does, examining every path he takes. An evil man is held captive by his own sins; they are ropes that catch and hold him. He will die for lack of self-control; he will be lost because of his great foolishness.”
Pray for contentment and beat temptation at every turn!
