Overcoming Monday Blues
I don’t know about you, but Monday is often my least favorite day of the week. It has nothing to do with my Monday activities, it’s simply because it’s Monday!
It’s a start of the grind, it begins a new week of flurry and activity, it’s a reminder that this world stops nor pauses for anyone. So, how do you and I get over the Monday grump?
I will praise you every day; yes, I will praise you forever. Great is the LORD! He is most worthy of praise! – Psalm 145:2-3
First, ask yourself, “Is God the God of Monday?” I know that it sounds silly, but seriously, is He still God even though you feel lousy.
Second, since He still is God, spend some time talking with Him and tell Him how you are feeling. If you feel lousy, tell Him, “God, I really feel lousy today, can you give me some encouragement?”
Third, break your routine. Do something different then you normally would to stimulate your brain. Instead of talk radio, listen to 90.5, or 98.7, or 97.9. All good Christian radio stations where you will hear many of the songs we sing on Sunday. If you have a long commute, sing at the top of your lungs, you’ll be amazed how much this changes your attitude.
Finally, look to brighten someone else’s day. When you take the focus off of yourself, it’s much easier to break the blues cycle. Look around you and see who needs some encouragement, then fill the need in their heart. Help them break out of the Monday Blues and it may just be what you need as well!
