Our Body, God’s Temple
29 No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church.
I’m sorry to say that I read this verse and even though it is speaking to wives and husbands about how they treat one another my mind wanders to another aspect. Let me share it with you.
I had to stop and wonder how many people actually treat their bodies as though they care for it. We could ask ourselves if we care for it the way Christ cares for the church and I think most of use would say “no”. When we think about the grease, sugar, and carbs we ingest everyday I believe it’s safe to say we tend to indulge. Our pants get tighter, so we buy a bigger size. We don’t have the energy to exercise, so we say we’re too busy. And forget about giving up time in front of the TV or computer! That’s the only time we have to unwind or we say we’re “working”. If we truly are suppose to care for our bodies the way Christ cares for the church maybe we should learn to set limits and boundaries in our lives. And dare I suggest say “no” to that chocolate piece of cake!
It’s a privilege to be used by God. But God wants us to be at our best, not at our “well here I am take what you get” stage. The only person who can make the CHOICE to make you better is you. And trust me, God will be right beside you to help.
