No Other Name
Think of someone that is so powerful that you immediately think of that power when you hear their name. Could be the President, or a big time CEO, or a gazillionaire, but when you hear their name spoken, flashes of their power and might shoot through your mind. You got someone in mind? No multiply that power times infinity (yes, I said “times infinity”. We’ve all said that one at least once in our lives.) Farther beyond that equation lies a name and influence and power that surpasses them all. It’s not even close. The name?…
Jesus.
“Praise the NAME of the Lord, give praise, o servants of the Lord; sing to His NAME, for it is pleasant!; Your NAME, o Lord, endures forever, your renown, o Lord, throughout all ages.” [Psalm 135:1, 3, 13]
“I will praise God’s NAME in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.” [Psalm 69:30]
That name stands alone as the final and above-all-other power. In the book of Acts, we see that His NAME had so much power that the rulers and authorities ordered the apostles not even to speak it (Acts 5:40).
“Therefore God exalted him (Jesus) to the highest place
and gave him the NAME that is above every NAME,
that at the NAME of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.” [Philippians 2:9-11]
What do you do in response to that? How to you treat the NAME of Jesus? With reverence and awe? When you hear it, does it bring your heart to worship in fear and adoration?
Your response is everything.
