At Friendship we believe the Church is not a building, it’s people, serving together to glorify God as an effective and influential church. So, each week, we’ll highlight a volunteer or staff member who serves at Friendship, because our volunteers and staff make everything we do possible! We’ve asked each person some fun questions to help you get to know them better.

Say hello to Joe Augsburger! When he’s not caffeinating all of us on Sunday mornings, he’s cheering on his The Ohio State Buckeyes or digging in to a Harry & Izzy’s New York Strip.

What brought you to Friendship originally?

My wife Elle and I were considering looking for a church and she rode her bike by Friendship daily. We decided to start there and had no need to look elsewhere!

What is your favorite holiday?

Christmas. I love giving and seeing the excitement on others faces when they get something meaningful to them.

Do you have any hobbies during your spare time?

Spare time, there is such a thing! I enjoy watching Ohio State football games, golfing, and going for long drives on country roads in my fast car.

What is the last book you have read?

It was actually a book that one of my grandma’s cousins had published. It was about my ancestry and the struggles they had to make it to America. It documented the highs and lows of my family’s history as well as many interesting things my family is famous for!

What would be your biggest fear?

Being locked in a room full of spiders! I hate spiders! More realistically would be one of my children choosing to stray from Christ.

What is your favorite restaurant?

Harry and Izzy’s. You have to get the Harry and Izzy’s New York Strip, it literally gushes with flavor every time you take a bite!

What is your most memorable moment at Friendship?

The first Sunday we came to Friendship, Pastor Dave and Andy Wendling were on stage talking. They were talking about the previous night’s football game between Alabama and Michigan and Don Stewart threw out a penalty flag when they said Michigan! As most of you know, Don is also a huge Buckeyes fan like myself. I just thought it was cool to see a church having so much fun with each other.

What has been your favorite Friendship series?

Woven. It was during this series that my wife and I decided to give our marriage to God! This series literally saved our marriage!

What is your favorite thing about volunteering?

Being able to lead a ministry and have such a meaningful role in our church! It has given us an avenue to get to know more people and develop lifelong friendships! Also, serving coffee gives us the opportunity to wake everyone up on Sunday mornings and make sure they are ready for Pastor Dave’s awesome messages!

What is your proudest moment in life?

I have four. Getting baptized, marrying my best friend, becoming a father, and finally getting my bachelor’s degree after nine years of trying!
