Hope in spite of “reality”
I’ve often heard the statement that goes something like this, “I know what the Bible says, but this is the real world I’m talking about.”
The essence of the argument is this, the Bible offers nice platitudes and is really good to follow when everything is going well or if something directly relates to spiritual things. But, when it comes to the “real world” we look for “real world” solutions in spite of what we may have read or seen in the Bible.
Well, try this on for size. You’re a woman promised by God that your son will be the leader of a great nation of people. Two major problems though, you don’t have a son, and you are about 40 years past child bearing! That was the situation that Sarah, wife of Abraham, found herself in. When the Angel of the Lord announced this, she actually laughed out loud. Guess what though, 9 months later she gave birth to Isaac.
Do you believe that God has put something “unreal” in your heart to believe in, hope in, or move towards?
Genesis 18:14 – Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.
