Holding Back

Many times throughout my life my attitude has gotten me in trouble. I once had a music instructor in high school tell me that if I would only control my attitude then I could do anything in life. That has stayed with me since. Every time I lose control, I remember those words. There are times that I want to give in but I remember what he said to me that day.

It’s so easy and feels really good to give in and just say want you want to say without any care of who it may affect. But that’s what a fool does. That’s not what a wise, God-seeking person does. Proverbs 29:11 says,

“A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds back.”

What a statement! Now that makes me want to hold my tongue for the gain of righteousness.

What you say matters; it has impact. Don’t be a fool. Be wise, hold it back, and godliness will be produced.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is…self-control” (from Galatians 5:22-23)

Your response is everything.
