Forgiveness Is Conditional

We always hear about God’s love being unconditional, but what about His forgiveness? Is God’s forgiveness conditional or unconditional? Let’s look at Ephesians 4:32 ~Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. So we should forgive one another as Christ forgave us. Were there any conditions for the forgiveness Christ gave?

Let’s look again in His Word in Acts 17:30 ~In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. And Luke 24:47 ~and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Forgiveness by God rests on clear, unmistakable conditions! His Word clearly states that the apostles did not merely announce that God had forgiven men, who should acknowledge and rejoice in the fact, rather, they were sent forth to preach “repentance and the forgiveness of sins”.

The sins of those who repented and trusted in the Saviour as the One who shed His blood for them were forgiven on the conditions of repentance and faith. Paul and the apostles turned away from those who refused to meet the conditions, just as John and Jesus did earlier when the Scribes and Pharisees would not repent.
