The 5:

A recap of Dave Crandall’s Message,
“Give God Your Best”
in 5 points or less.

  1. Three reasons we don’t give God our best: we believe it’s ours, we’re afraid of running short, and we think we’re safe.
  2. God does not want something from you, He wants something for you!
  3. Giving is not a ‘magic bullet’ where you can be financially irresponsible and still get God’s best. Giving God your best is one part of God’s commands for responsibly handling the resources He has given us.
  4. God wants to bless your life. He has set up the universe so you get blessed when you follow his commandments and live like he wants you to live.
  5. Your giving, or lack of giving, determines the level of God’s blessing in your life!

What We Learned:

In the Bible the story of Cain and Abel is a popular one, but today we focused on the portion about what they offered God. Specifically Cain brought “some” of what he had, but Abel brought “the best of his firstborn.” God was happy with Abel and accepted his offering, but he was disappointed in Cain and rejected Cain’s offering. The lesson helped us understand that if we REALLY put God first in our life, that means we will show it in how we manage our money and resources too. God doesn’t deserve the leftovers, he deserves our first and our best!

In The Car:

Tell your kids about a time when you gave someone less than your best when they deserved more. How did they respond? How can you as a family give God your first and your best moving forward?

At Bedtime:

Pray with your kids, thanking God for his unending generosity and love! Pray that as they grow they would put God first in every area of their life. Pray that as you model how to put God first in your family’s finances, your kids will follow in your footsteps and put him first in their life too!

Weekly Challenge:

Give God Your First & Your Best!
Kids have been challenged to give God their first and their best as an offering. Since most kids in our age group don’t consistently earn money, kids wrote down what they were going to offer God out of their TIME and EFFORT this week. Then they were challenged to write themselves reminder cards they can post around the house, like on the bathroom mirror, by their toothbrush, on even in their lunch box! This way they can really put God first all week!
