Do you have enough?

Haggai 1:6
You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.”

Haggai was one of the last prophets and is sending the message of God’s eagerness to respond to His people with mercy. In this first chapter of Haggai God is speaking to the Israelites about the rebuilding of the temple but when I came across this verse it reminded me of how much we are blessed and easily ignore it. We are blessed with so much in our life but at this time of year we tend to focus on what else we want or are going to get. Everyone has their Christmas list made, beautifully wrapped presents are under most of our Christmas trees, and our homes are filled with special treats that only come into the kitchen for this holiday.

But are you satisfied? Are you thankful? Do you still long for more? Does contentment ever settle in your heart?

What is your focus on for our celebration of Christ’s birth this year?
