The lies we believe keep us from living the life we want! -Dave Crandall #WhyJesusCame

The 5:

A recap of Dave Crandall’s message “Speak the Truth” in 5 points or less.

  1. We’ve bought into the lie that if we believe in the lie enough, it will come true.
  2. We don’t like the truth because we don’t like that it demands a change in our behavior.
  3. The only way to counteract a lie is to speak the truth.
  4. Value and worth is determined by what someone is willing to pay for it. God looked at you and said you are worth the very value and price of His Son to save you from all of the sin and lies you believe.
  5. Only Jesus can help us have the faith to let go of the lie so that we can embrace the truth.

What We Learned:

Like the tinsel on a tree, some things about celebrating Christmas can help us remember the real reason we celebrate, but too often they can distract and overwhelm us from enjoying things. We get caught up in how busy we are with programs, Christmas shopping, and stressful parties that we get distracted and wind up forgetting the miracle of Christmas all together. Kids were challenged to bring their family together each night leading up to Christmas to read just a little bit of the Christmas story in the book of Luke. This way everyone gets to celebrate together and share a new tradition, without getting distracted from the miracle of Christmas!

In The Car:

Play a game with your kids while you drive! Each time someone spots a Christmas decoration, they get to tell everyone in the car what they know of the story of Christmas from the Bible. Challenge them to tell you more and more of it each day! Make the game more challenging by looking for Nativity scenes, or a specific decoration like a star.

At Bedtime:

  • Get out your Bibles and read a few verses of the Christmas story together!
  • Start a tradition where each year you choose a fun Christmas book for bedtime leading up to Christmas Eve.
  • Pray with your kids thanking God for the Miracle of Christmas, for sending his Son, Jesus, to save the world from sin forever. Thank God that we get the opportunity to truly celebrate Christmas without getting distracted by all of the other “stuff” that comes with it!
