A Wasted Life:
Yesterday at Friendship we looked at the commands in verses 10 and 12 of Psalm 90. However, I’d like to take a moment and look back at verses 7-9:
We wither beneath your anger; we are overwhelmed by your fury. You spread out our sins before you––our secret sins––and you see them all. We live our lives beneath your wrath, ending our years with a groan. – Psalm 90:7-9
What a sad reality so many people will have! You see all of us are by our very nature sinners, therefore our sins are constantly before God. Another way to say it is that God never forgets the wrong that we’ve done. The Psalmist goes on to say, that if this goes unrectified that we will live our lives under the wrath of God’s judgment and the end of our life will be filled with groaning or sorrow.
But, here’s what can happen:
Where is another God like you, who pardons the guilt of the remnant, overlooking the sins of his special people? You will not stay angry with your people forever, because you delight in showing unfailing love. Once again you will have compassion on us. You will trample our sins under your feet and throw them into the depths of the ocean! – Micah 7:18-19
You see even in our sinfulness God still loves us. Even though our sin is always on his mind and ever present, he still wanted to make a way for us! In fact, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, for one purpose – to absorb His wrath over our sin so that we could have a restored relationship with God:
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! – Romans 5:8-9
As you go through the day today, ask yourself this question, “Is what I am doing bringing glory to and showing thanks for all the Jesus Christ did and is doing for me?” If not my friend, then you have wasted your day. If you continue to string wasted days together you may very soon realize that you are wasting your life on things that do not matter! Don’t Waste Your Life!
